Session 1: June 29 -July 3
All Creatures Great and Small
Fascinated by animals? This camp is for you! From tiny bugs to black-tailed deer, the creatures living at Mount Pisgah are all around us. Meet the turtles, salamanders, and honey bees! Where are the turtles found? Who dives for fish in the river? What does the slug eat for dinner? We’ll explore all the wildife, make animal track casts, scoop the pond, have a slug race and more!
Session 2: July 13 – July 17
DaVinci Kids
Tree Keepers
A brand new session this year! Trees are what make Mount Pisgah Arboretum so special. Get to really know the trees that live here. How do they survive? What animals depend on them for their home? At this camp we will plant a camp tree, build with trees, discover trees on our blind trail, and go up in a sling to experience life in a tree.
Session 4: July 27 - July 31
Oregon Explorers
At this fun-filled camp, we'll learn what it's like to be explorers in the wilderness. In the spirit of Lewis and Clark's expedition, campers will play trading games, make leather knapsacks, learn tracking, try candle making and make fruit leather with blueberries picked on the banks of the river. Lots of hiking at this camp! A great week for kids who love adventure and history.
Session 5: August 3 - August 7
Survivor: Mount Pisgah.
Now in its fourth year at Mount Pisgah- this is the most popular
session at our camp! Here’s your chance to work with fellow campers to
be your best and learn to survive in the wild. Daily challenges will
include wilderness skills, physical feats, and friendly competitions.
It takes teamwork to survive as a tribe on Mt. Pisgah. No one is voted
off this mountain!

Interested in volunteering at our camp?
Outdoor Adventure Camp Volunteer Program Assistants wanted, June 29–Aug 7, 2009.
What will I be doing?
Program Assistants are high school students (14-17 years old) who assist the Day Camp Director and staff in making this a fun and exciting experience for our campers. You will be working with our counselors, engaging 7-11 year old campers in activities that include hiking, nature studies, wilderness skills, outdoor crafts, singing, storytelling, games, ice cream socials and more.
What is required of me?
Program Assistants are students who are comfortable with and enjoy working with young kids. They like being outdoors and learning about nature. As Program Assistants, they are fun to be with, caring, responsible, enthusiastic and ready to learn new leadership skills.
Will you train me?
Program Assistants attend one, half-day training session in June (TBA). Training covers all areas of working with kids at camp– assisting with activities, leading activities, working with kids and successful communication skills.
What will I get out of this experience?
This is a volunteer experience where you can gain some valuable experience working with young children in the outdoors. The skills you acquire through volunteering at Mount Pisgah Arboretum's Outdoor Adventure Camp will help you apply for future jobs and provide additional experience for your college applications. These hours may also be used towards fulfilling your school’s community service requirement.
When will I be expected to work?
The Arboretum's Summer Camp consists of five one-week sessions, June 29–Aug 7 (There is no camp the week of July 6-10.) Camps are held M-F, 9am-4pm. Each camp has a unique outdoor theme. Program Assistants must commit to working full days (9-4) for a minimum of two camp sessions.
How do I apply?
Click here to download an application, or call or email the Arboretum Camp Director, Fran Rosenthal, at 747-1504, mtpisgfr@efn.org, for an application. Students will be interviewed until all positions are filled.
